Homeowner Stewardship Projects

Protection of the watershed is a major goal of the Watershed Management Plan and Committee. In addition to individual public seminars, funding has been successfully sought in the past for special projects to help homeowners understand the role they play in watershed health.  You can learn more by reading about the events associated with SMARTyards and Community Spaces, Natural Places, two such projects.

SMARTyards was a project partially funded by the Kneale Dockstader Foundation in 2004 with some extra funding from the Christina Basin Partnership.  Community Spaces, Natural Places was originally conducted in 2006 in New Castle County Delaware in cooperation with the Delaware Coastal Programs.  It was funded, in part, through a grant from the Delaware Coastal Programs with funding from the Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration under award number DECZM2005.  In 2007 it was adapted for 3 townships in Chester County, Pennsylvania and was partially funded by the Kneale Dockstader Foundation.
